Srinagar, Apr 28: Over 1,000 vehicles that were stranded on the Srinagar-Leh highway for 12 days due to heavy snowfall have finally crossed the Zojila Pass. The highway, which connects Ladakh with the rest of Jammu and Kashmir, was closed since April 17 due to heavy snowfall and landslides, leaving hundreds of vehicles stranded.
The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) worked round the clock to clear the snow and debris from the road, making it possible for vehicles to cross the Zojila Pass. The stranded vehicles included those carrying essential commodities and passengers, and their delayed arrival had caused inconvenience to many.
The BRO has advised commuters to exercise caution while driving on the highway, as the road is still slippery in some areas due to snow and ice. The authorities have also warned of the possibility of more landslides and advised people to avoid travelling on the highway unless necessary.
