Srinagar, May 1 : Tourism in Jammu and Kashmir is experiencing a surge in popularity as more domestic and foreign visitors flock to the region. The Union Territory is quickly becoming one of the top destinations in India, with tourism officials reporting a rise in footfall compared to previous years.
Tourism department secretary Abid Rashid Shah stated that the number of tourists visiting Jammu and Kashmir is increasing every year, and that efforts are being made to ensure all visitors have a memorable stay in the region. He emphasized the responsibility of all tourism industry stakeholders to provide a hospitable and welcoming environment for tourists.
In 2022, Jammu and Kashmir received 1.88 crore tourists, a high enough number for any region, and this year the administration expects arrivals to exceed two crore. Even before the start of the regular tourism season, the number of tourist arrivals in the region has been steadily increasing, according to Tourism Director Fazlul Haseeb.
Kashmir, once popular mainly with honeymooners, is now attracting even long-married couples who are celebrating their anniversaries in the picturesque location. Tourists such as Kavita Katay and her husband Govind are enjoying their 24th anniversary in Kashmir, praising the pleasant climate and the safe and peaceful environment.
Other visitors, including Vidyadhar from Karnataka, Vishwanath from Karnataka, and Abhilasha from Nagpur, have also spoken highly of their experiences in Kashmir, citing the hospitality of the people and the region’s natural beauty as reasons to visit.
