New Delhi, May 5 : In a significant move at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) conclave in Goa, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar greeted Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari with a “Namastey” on Friday, avoiding a handshake. Zardari is the first Pakistani foreign minister to visit India in nearly 12 years and was attending the SCO Council of Foreign Ministers. The two-day-long meeting of SCO member states began on Thursday. Jaishankar also welcomed SCO Secretary-General Zhang Ming and Chinese Foreign Minister Qin Gang to the Meeting of the SCO Council of Foreign Ministers. The discussions primarily focused on resolving outstanding issues and ensuring peace and tranquillity in the border areas. The SCO comprises India, Russia, China, Pakistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan as its members, with India currently holding the rotating presidency of the organization for 2023.
