Jammu, May 6 : Defence Minister Rajnath Singh departed from the national capital to personally evaluate the situation surrounding the ongoing encounter between security forces and terrorists in the Kandi area of Rajouri. This visit comes just one day after a tragic incident claimed the lives of five soldiers during the anti-terror operation known as ‘Operation Trinetra,’ conducted jointly by the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and the CRPF.
Early this morning, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha paid a heartfelt tribute to the fallen Army personnel who lost their lives on Friday when terrorists set off an explosive device during the Rajouri encounter. The brave soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice were Lance Naik Ruchin Singh Rawat, Paratrooper Siddhant Chettri, Naik Arvind Kumar, Hav Neelam Singh, and Paratrooper Pramod Negi.
The Indian Army has been engaged in operations to eliminate a group of terrorists responsible for an ambush on an army truck in the Tota Gali area of Bhata Dhurian, Jammu region, about two weeks ago, resulting in the loss of five more soldiers. In the latest update, Army officials reported that during an early morning exchange of fire in Kandi, one terrorist was neutralised while another is believed to be injured.
The confrontation with the terrorists initially occurred around 1:15 am, prompting an intense exchange of gunfire as the militants attempted to escape the encirclement. The cordon was readjusted at approximately 5 am, and the battle ensued. Paying tribute to the fallen heroes, Lt Gen Upendra Dwivedi, the Northern Army Commander, participated in a solemn wreath-laying ceremony on behalf of all ranks of the Northern Command of the Indian Army.
Rajnath Singh’s visit to Jammu holds great significance as it demonstrates the government’s commitment to closely monitoring the evolving situation and taking appropriate measures to ensure the safety and security of the region.
