New Delhi, May 8 : The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Transport, Tourism, and Culture is scheduled to hold a meeting on Monday to hear representatives from the Ministry of Civil Aviation regarding the issue of “fixing of airfares.”
During the meeting, the committee will also consider and adopt draft reports on topics including “Heritage Theft – The Illegal Trade in Indian Antiquities and the Challenges of Retrieving and Safeguarding Our Tangible Cultural Heritage” and “Development of Greenfield and Brownfield Airports and Issues pertaining to Civil Enclaves in Defence Airports.” The session with Civil Aviation Ministry officials to discuss airfare regulations is set to commence at 3:30 pm.
The parliamentary panel, led by Senior YSRCP leader V Vijayasai Reddy, aims to address concerns related to recent reports of significant fare hikes on flights from Manipur, particularly the Guwahati-Imphal route, amidst ongoing unrest in the region. Additionally, the voluntary insolvency resolution proceedings filed by budget airline Go First, citing engine supply issues, have impacted airfares in sectors where the airline operated.
Members of the parliamentary committee emphasized the importance of discussing airfare issues, particularly the observed fare surges during peak travel seasons. The meeting with officials from the Ministry of Civil Aviation will provide an opportunity for dialogue and potential solutions on this matter.
