Srinagar, May 10 : Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister, Farooq Abdullah, expressed concerns on Wednesday about the dangers posed by a destabilized Pakistan to all nations, including India. His statement came in the wake of the recent arrest of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chairman Imran Khan in a corruption case.
“We must recognize that a destabilized Pakistan poses a grave threat to all countries, including our own. We aspire for a stronger and democratic Pakistan, where democracy thrives, leading to improved relations with India,” stated Abdullah, who currently serves as the President of the National Conference (NC).
Highlighting the precarious internal situation in Pakistan, Abdullah emphasized the nation’s worrisome economic condition. He drew attention to the severe impact of heavy floods that hit the region last year, leaving many areas still reeling from the aftermath. In light of these circumstances, he deemed the current situation even more perilous.
Abdullah also noted that while the current state of affairs in Pakistan was dangerous, the country had a history of such events. “If we look back at Pakistan’s history since independence, we witness the assassination of the first Prime Minister, followed by the hanging of (Zulfiqar Ali) Bhutto, and the tragic demise of his daughter, Benazir Bhutto. Now, Imran Khan, the fourth former Prime Minister, has been imprisoned. We fervently hope for his safety,” he added.
Abdullah’s remarks underscored the need for stability and a flourishing democratic system in Pakistan, emphasizing its significance not only for the nation itself but also for global security.
