New Delhi, May 18 : Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s call for support in favor of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) mayoral candidates and the formation of BJP boards in municipal corporations has resonated with the people of Uttar Pradesh. The result has been a complete exclusion of opposition parties from some boards, with all 17 mayors representing the BJP.
For instance, in Jhansi and the newly established Shahjahanpur Municipal Corporation, the Samajwadi Party (SP) failed to secure any seats. In a significant development, the BJP will independently form boards in 13 municipal corporations, showcasing the party’s growing strength. Independent candidates were preferred over those from SP, BSP, and Congress in many constituencies. Notably, BSP candidates failed to secure any seats in Kanpur, Varanasi, and Bareilly, while Congress candidates failed to open their accounts in Ayodhya and Saharanpur.
In 13 out of the 17 municipal corporations in the state, BJP councilors constitute over 50% of the board. The party’s impressive victory includes winning 80 and 63 councilor seats out of 110 seats each in Lucknow and Kanpur, respectively. Additionally, BJP candidates secured 63, 66, 56, and 58 seats out of 100 seats each in Varanasi, Ghaziabad, Prayagraj, and Agra, respectively. The party also triumphed with 42 and 51 councilor seats out of 80 seats each in Gorakhpur and Bareilly, respectively. This victory exemplifies CM Yogi’s commitment to the state’s development.
The Samajwadi Party failed to secure any councilor seats in Jhansi and the newly created Shahjahanpur Municipal Corporation in Bundelkhand, while the BJP won 38 and 41 out of 60 seats, respectively.
