Chandigarh/New Delhi, May 23 : Congress leader Rahul Gandhi embarked on a noteworthy truck journey from Delhi to Chandigarh, aiming to understand the challenges faced by truck drivers, according to the party’s statement on Tuesday.
Gandhi undertook the journey on Monday night, and visuals and videos captured the former party chief, clad in his signature white T-shirt, seated inside a truck. He traveled alongside one of the drivers, engaging in conversations with truck drivers at a local dhaba.
The Congress tweeted in Hindi, stating, “Leader of the people @RahulGandhi ji reached out to truck drivers to understand their problems. Rahul ji traveled with them from Delhi to Chandigarh.”
During the journey, Gandhi made a stop near a Gurdwara in Ambala City along the Ambala-Chandigarh national highway early Tuesday morning, where he paid his respects.
Highlighting the significance of the initiative, the Congress said, “According to media reports, there are approximately 90 lakh truck drivers on Indian roads, each facing their own set of challenges. Rahul ji took the step of listening to their ‘Mann Ki Baat’ (heartfelt thoughts).”
Udai Bhan, the Haryana Congress chief, informed PTI that Gandhi traveled alongside truck drivers, making stops along the way to understand their grievances.
Supriya Shrinate, the head of Congress’ social media department, shared pictures of Gandhi traveling in the truck and meeting with truck drivers. In a Hindi tweet, she praised Gandhi’s commitment to bridging the gap between the public and the government, stating, “Rahul Gandhi is a unique individual. Today, he is dedicated to fostering a better connection between the general public and the government in our country. Whether it’s spending the night with truck drivers, listening to their problems, or traveling in a truck in this scorching heat, he gives hope for a brighter future to a few.”
Congress sources revealed that Gandhi was en route to Shimla to spend time with his mother, Sonia Gandhi. However, he took the opportunity to engage with truck drivers and gain insights into their challenges during the journey.
