JAMMU, May 30: The Meteorological Department has forecasted widespread intermittent light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorm and lightning in Jammu and Kashmir until June 2. There is a possibility of hailstorms and gusty winds at a few places from May 31 to June 2, as per the MeT office.
Today, the weather is expected to be generally cloudy with light to moderate rain, thunder, and lightning in many areas. Isolated places in Jammu and Kashmir may experience hailstorms, cautioned the MeT office. Farmers have been advised to suspend all farm operations until June 2, and the office has also warned of possible disruptions to traffic in vulnerable areas due to rain or snow.
According to the MeT office, the rainfall recorded in the past 24 hours till 8:30 am today was 16.2mm in Srinagar, 7.6mm in Qazigund, traces in Pahalgam, 0.4mm in Kupwara, 10.6mm in Kokernag, and 8.8mm in Gulmarg.
The minimum temperature in Srinagar was recorded at 11.0 degrees Celsius, slightly below the normal for this time of year. The maximum temperature was 26.1 degrees Celsius, also slightly below the normal. Qazigund, Pahalgam, Kokernag, and Kupwara recorded temperatures above or below the normal range, while Gulmarg experienced a low temperature of 4.0 degrees Celsius, well below the normal temperature.
