New Delhi, June 07 : In an ongoing development regarding the sexual assault case involving Brij Bhushan Singh, wrestlers Bajrang Punia and Sakshi Malik paid a visit to the residence of Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur on Wednesday. The meeting was arranged as part of the sports ministry’s request for “fresh talks” with the wrestlers. Previously, the wrestlers had met with Home Minister Amit Shah, but the discussions were inconclusive.
Speaking to ANI, Sakshi Malik expressed that they would consult with their elders and supporters before considering any proposal from the government. She emphasized that they would only accept a solution that is agreeable to all. Minister Anurag Thakur had extended an invitation to the wrestlers on Tuesday, expressing the government’s willingness to address their concerns.
While the protesting wrestlers, including Sakshi Malik, Vinesh Phogat, and Bajrang Punia, resumed their training on Monday, they remain determined to fight for justice. Sakshi Malik took to Twitter, urging news organizations to refrain from spreading false information and assuring that their pursuit of justice continues. The wrestlers have put forth three additional demands: the arrest of Brij Bhushan Singh, reforms in Indian wrestling, and transparent elections within the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI).
Brij Bhushan Singh has already faced two FIRs based on the complaints of seven female wrestlers. The allegations against him include demanding sexual favors, inappropriate touching, multiple instances of molestation, and employing tactics like blackmail and stalking to silence the victims. The wrestlers are determined to ensure accountability and bring about a positive change in the sport.
