J&K, Apr 10 : Junaid Azim Mattu, the youth president of the Jammu and Kashmir-based political party Apni Party, has resigned from his post. The announcement was made by the party’s president Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari in a statement issued on Saturday.
Mattu, who is also the former mayor of Srinagar, had joined the Apni Party in 2019 and was appointed as the youth president last year. In his resignation letter, he cited personal reasons for stepping down from his position.
Bukhari thanked Mattu for his contributions to the party and wished him well for his future endeavors. He also announced that the party will soon appoint a new youth president.
Mattu’s resignation comes at a time when the political situation in Jammu and Kashmir is still uncertain after the abrogation of Article 370 in August 2019. The Apni Party was formed after the revocation of the special status of Jammu and Kashmir, with the aim of providing a platform for the people of the region to voice their concerns and work towards their development.
The party has been trying to establish itself as a credible alternative to the traditional political parties in the region. Mattu’s departure is likely to be a setback for the party, especially among its youth supporters.
