Srinagar, June 21: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha enthusiastically participated in the 9th International Yoga Day Celebrations held at the Botanical Garden in Srinagar. During his address at the event, Lt. Governor Sinha emphasized the importance of incorporating yoga into daily routines for a stress-free and healthy life.
Highlighting this year’s theme, “One Earth, One Family, One Future,” as envisioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Lt. Governor emphasized that yoga transcends religious, sectarian, and geographical boundaries, bringing happiness to people’s lives.
Drawing from the teachings of Maharshi Patanjali, Lt. Governor Sinha explained that yoga’s essence lies in the discipline of the mind and the synchronization of body and mind in the present moment. By reducing stress levels, promoting mindfulness, and enhancing physical strength, yoga brings harmony to the body and mind.
He further expressed that yoga is not merely a physical exercise but also symbolizes the unity between the body-mind and nature. Recognized by medical science and researchers, yoga is a valuable practice of traditional medicine that offers numerous physical and mental health benefits for people of all ages.
The Lt. Governor highlighted the importance of both physical and mental discipline for practicing yoga, as it integrates the functioning of the body and mind. He emphasized that in today’s world, doctors often prescribe lifestyle changes alongside medication for long-term health, and yoga serves as a transformative medium that strengthens bonds between individuals.
Acknowledging yoga’s global appeal, the Lt. Governor expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who will be participating in a yoga event at the United Nations. He also commended the Directorate of AYUSH, J&K, for their efforts in promoting traditional medicine and obtaining approval for a Homeopathic College in Kathua.
The International Yoga Day celebration in Srinagar was attended by dignitaries including Junaid Azim Mattu, Mayor of Srinagar Municipal Corporation; Sh Rajeev Rai Bhatnagar, Advisor to the Lt. Governor; Dr. Arun Kumar Mehta, Chief Secretary; Sh Dilbag Singh, DGP; Sh Dheeraj Gupta, Principal Secretary of the Forest Department; Dr. Mandeep Kumar Bhandari, Principal Secretary to the Lt. Governor; Sh Bhupinder Kumar, Secretary of the Health and Medical Education Department, along with other senior officials.
