Srinagar, Jun 21: PDP President Mehbooba Mufti has called upon party workers to extend their support to the upcoming annual Amarnath Yatra and ensure the well-being of the pilgrims. She sees the pilgrimage as a “golden chance” to remind the country about the essence of Kashmiriyat.
Addressing reporters after a party meeting, Mufti emphasized the tradition of hospitality in Kashmir and stressed the importance of taking care of the yatris as they are considered guests. She noted that at a time when communal tensions are being fueled across the country, Kashmir has consistently showcased a message of brotherhood.
Mufti highlighted the significance of the Amarnath Yatra in reiterating the principles of Kashmiriyat to the entire nation. She appealed to all party workers to contribute to the success of the yatra, extend a warm welcome to the pilgrims, and provide assistance in every possible way.
During her interaction, Mufti expressed concerns about the challenging circumstances faced by Muslims in various parts of the country, including demolitions of their shops and eviction from their homes, as well as incidents of religious-based violence. Against this backdrop, she emphasized the need to strengthen the bonds of unity and harmony through the Amarnath Yatra.
Additionally, Mufti called on the government to ensure that the local population does not face any inconvenience during the yatra. She emphasized that while facilitating the pilgrimage and providing facilities to the pilgrims, it is crucial to ensure that the locals, who are the true hosts of the yatra, do not experience any inconvenience. Mufti cited instances from the previous year where patients were unable to reach hospitals, and pregnant women had to deliver babies on roads, urging the government to take measures to prevent such situations from recurring.
Mufti’s appeal reflects her commitment to promoting inclusivity, Kashmiriyat, and peaceful coexistence, urging party members and the government to ensure the smooth and successful conduct of the Amarnath Yatra while prioritizing the welfare of both pilgrims and locals.
