Udhampur, June 30: In Udhampur, Jammu and Kashmir, a security convoy vehicle assigned to the Amarnath Yatra met with an accident on Friday morning, resulting in injuries to four individuals, including a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), according to police sources.
The incident occurred when the Amarnath Yatra security convoy vehicle veered off the road and fell into a drain near Bali Nallah on the Jammu-Srinagar highway, as reported by officials.
The Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Vinod Kumar, confirmed that four individuals were injured and have been transported to Udhampur District Hospital for medical treatment. SSP Kumar further stated that one of the injured is a deputy superintendent of police.

Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha, flagged off the first group of Amarnath Yatra pilgrims from the Jammu base camp early on Friday. Under strict security measures, the initial batch of pilgrims departed for Pahalgam and Baltal, as stated by a senior officer from the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).
The 62-day-long yatra, commencing on July 1 and concluding on August 31, holds significant religious importance for Hindus, who embark on a sacred pilgrimage to the Amarnath Cave, believed to be the divine abode of Lord Shiva. Pilgrims begin their solemn trek from the ancient routes of Nunwan in Pahalgam and Baltal in the Ganderbal district of Kashmir.
