Srinagar, July 7: Jammu and Kashmir experienced heavy rainfall, leading to a drop in temperature, as the Meteorological Department predicts further showers until July 9. A meteorological official reported that within the past 24 hours until 8:30 a.m. today, Srinagar received 1.2mm of rainfall, Qazigund received 1.4mm, Pahalgam received 7.8mm, Kupwara received 2.7mm, Kokernag received 10.2mm, Gulmarg received 0.6mm, Banihal received 3.4mm, Batote received 2.4mm, Katra received 0.6mm, and Bhaderwah received 0.8mm.
According to the forecast, the region can expect generally cloudy weather with intermittent rain and thunderstorms in various areas of Jammu and Kashmir over the next 24 hours. While heavy rain is not anticipated, the Meteorological Department stated that intermittent light to moderate rain is likely to occur in multiple locations on July 8-9.
Regarding minimum temperatures, Srinagar recorded a low of 16.8°C, which is 0.9°C below normal for the summer capital, compared to 17.8°C on the previous night. Qazigund recorded a low of 15.6°C, 0.5°C below normal for the gateway town of the Kashmir Valley, compared to 16.0°C the previous night. Pahalgam recorded a low of 10.1°C, 1.7°C below normal for the famous tourist resort in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district, compared to 12.8°C the previous night. Kupwara town saw temperatures settle at 15.3°C, which is 0.8°C below normal for the north Kashmir area, compared to 15.6°C the previous night. Kokernag recorded a low of 14.7°C, 1.0°C below normal, while Gulmarg recorded a low of 10.2°C, 1.6°C below normal for the renowned skiing resort in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district. In Jammu, the temperature dropped to 24.3°C, 1.4°C below normal for Jammu and Kashmir’s winter capital. Banihal recorded a low of 17.9°C (0.8°C above normal), Batote 18.5°C (0.8°C above normal), Katra 21.5°C (0.6°C below normal), and Bhaderwah 15.8°C (0.7°C below normal), as stated by the official. In Ladakh, Leh recorded a low of 7.8°C, while Kargil recorded 13.4°C.
