Srinagar, July 11: Most places in Jammu and Kashmir experienced an increase in minimum temperatures on Tuesday amid a forecast of mainly dry weather. According to a meteorological department official quoted by GNS, dry weather is expected to prevail until July 14, although brief spells of rain and thunderstorms at isolated places cannot be ruled out (with a chance of over 70%). From July 15-24, intermittent light to moderate rain has been predicted in many areas of J&K, with chances of up to 70%.
Regarding today’s minimum temperatures, the MeT official stated that Srinagar recorded a low of 16.4°C, slightly lower than the previous night’s 17.2°C, and 1.7°C below the normal for the summer capital. Qazigund registered a low of 16.0°C, compared to 14.5°C the previous night, which was 0.5°C below the normal for the gateway town of the Kashmir Valley. Pahalgam, the famous tourist resort in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district, recorded a low of 10.7°C, slightly higher than the previous night’s 10.3°C, but still 1.3°C below normal. In Kupwara town, the mercury settled at 15.1°C, slightly lower than the previous night’s 15.2°C, and 1.3°C below normal for the north Kashmir area. Kokernag recorded a low of 15.3°C, compared to 14.2°C the previous night, which was 0.6°C below normal. Gulmarg, the world-famous skiing resort in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, registered a low of 9.8°C, higher than the previous night’s 9.0°C, but still 2.0°C below normal.
In Jammu, the winter capital of J&K, the minimum temperature was 25.1°C, above the normal of 23.8°C. Banihal recorded a low of 16.1°C, Batote 17.6°C, Katra 22.7°C, and Bhaderwah 15.4°C, according to the official.
