Jammu, July 12: The Army has honored a group of six civilians who voluntarily joined the rescue operation after two soldiers were swept away by flash floods in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district. The Army organized a special function in Poonch to acknowledge their bravery and assistance.
Karamat Hussain, Shakeel Ahmad, Imran Ahmad, Mushtaq Ahmad, Raja Khan from Dogria village, and Aftar Ahmad from Behramgalla were recognized for their selflessness during the rescue operation, stated Jammu-based Army PRO Lt Col Suneel Bartwal.
During an area domination patrol in the challenging terrain of Poonch on Saturday, Lance Naik Telu Ram was swept away by flash floods while crossing a mountainous stream. Naib Subedar Kuldeep Singh, the patrol leader, tragically lost his life while attempting to save his subordinate.
While the body of JCO Singh was recovered within hours of the incident on Saturday night, Lance Naik Ram’s mortal remains were retrieved the following day. A video circulated on social media showcased the locals assisting the Army in recovering the soldiers’ bodies.
