Ladakh, July 17 : Tourists and locals who found themselves stranded on the Leh-Manali road due to flash floods received aid on Monday, thanks to the efforts of the police and disaster management personnel in Ladakh.
The Leh-Manali road serves as a vital connection between Ladakh and Himachal Pradesh, but it was severely affected by landslides triggered by the sudden flash floods during the early hours of the morning. Numerous vehicles were caught in mudslides, further complicating the situation.
Local police and disaster management teams promptly intervened, working together to evacuate the stranded travelers and redirect traffic towards alternative routes. The dedicated men of the HIMANK Project, operated by the Border Roads Organization (BRO), also played a crucial role in restoring the crucial road link.
The district administration in Leh continues to closely monitor the situation to ensure the safety of all individuals involved. Fortunately, the restoration of the Gya-Meru Road has already been completed, providing a sigh of relief. Additionally, one-way traffic has been permitted on the road from Leh to Nyoma.
It is important to note that the Leh district has been grappling with a series of flash floods in recent days, primarily caused by the rapid melting of snow.
