Panaji, Jul 22 – Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the ongoing G20 Energy Ministers’ Meeting in Goa via video link on Saturday, highlighting India’s significant strides in green growth and energy transition. He emphasized the country’s steadfast commitment to climate goals and asserted that India is a front-runner in climate action.
During his address, the Prime Minister stated, “India is making great efforts in green growth and energy transition. India, being the most populated nation and the fastest-growing large economy, is firmly progressing towards fulfilling its climate commitments.”
Modi proudly announced that India had achieved its non-fossil installed electric capacity target nearly a decade ahead of schedule. Setting an even higher aim, he revealed the country’s plan to achieve 50 per cent non-fossil electricity by 2030.
Recognizing the G20’s global significance, Modi emphasized the group’s role in spearheading advanced, sustainable, affordable, inclusive, and clean energy transition. He stressed the importance of ensuring that developing nations, particularly those in the global south, are not left behind in this transition and called for measures to provide low-cost finance to support their energy initiatives.
Furthermore, the Prime Minister urged collaboration to bridge technology gaps, promote energy security, and work towards diversifying supply chains. He also underscored the need for strengthening efforts related to fuels for the future.
