Jammu, July 31 : In a significant step towards promoting sustainable transportation, Jammu, the winter capital of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, is gearing up to welcome a fleet of 100 e-buses in August. The initiative falls under the Smart City Project Limited and aims to reduce carbon emissions while fostering a cleaner environment.
The e-buses, supplied by TATA Limited, are poised to make a substantial impact on the city’s public transport system. Among the 100 e-buses, 75 of them (9-meter model) will be deployed within Jammu city, while the remaining 25 (12-meter) vehicles will operate outside the Jammu district. The entire fleet is expected to arrive in the coming days.
The launch of these eco-friendly buses will follow successful trials in August, ensuring their reliable, comfortable, and affordable operation for the public. To ensure safety, the e-buses will be equipped with state-of-the-art features such as panic buttons, location tracking systems, CCTV cameras, and stop request systems.
Furthermore, the introduction of online metros, mobility cards, and digital payment systems will replace traditional paper tickets, enhancing convenience for passengers.
To support the e-bus infrastructure, a fully equipped bus-stand cum charging station and parking bay have been established at Bhagwati Nagar, Jammu.
With this eco-conscious initiative, Jammu anticipates a significant stride towards a greener and more sustainable future for its public transportation system.
