Srinagar, August 5: Security forces in Kulgam have deployed drones to locate a group of three to four terrorists hiding in the Halan Heights area, where an encounter on Friday resulted in the death of three Indian Army soldiers.
The ongoing encounter has prompted the Indian Army’s Para Special Forces to be deployed for a search and destroy mission in the area, according to sources in the security forces.
The joint operation was initiated based on intelligence inputs about the presence of terrorists in the dense vegetation with undergrowth. The security forces are intensifying their search operations and attempting to establish contact with the terrorists.
The encounter began on Friday when the terrorists opened fire at the security forces, who retaliated. Unfortunately, three security personnel sustained injuries during the exchange of fire and later succumbed to their injuries.
The Srinagar-based Chinar Corps of the Army confirmed the operation in a tweet, stating, “Operation Halan #Kulgam. On specific inputs regarding the presence of terrorists on higher reaches of Halan in Kulgam, operations launched by Security Forces on 04 Aug 23. In exchange of firing with terrorists, three personnel sustained injuries and later succumbed. Search operations are continuing.”
