New Delhi, Aug 16 : The Central Election Committee (CEC) of the BJP has convened a significant meeting at the party’s headquarters in the capital on Wednesday, in anticipation of the imminent Assembly elections. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP National President J.P. Nadda, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, along with other CEC members, will be in attendance.
Insiders suggest that the party leadership is poised to make substantial decisions concerning the forthcoming Assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, both slated to occur by year-end. The traditional purpose of a party CEC meeting revolves around deliberating on potential candidates for Legislative Assembly and Lok Sabha elections. What sets this instance apart is the timing, as such meetings typically follow the announcement of election dates by the Election Commission. However, the BJP has convened the CEC meeting before the election dates have been disclosed.
Sources indicate that the meeting will primarily focus on constituencies where the party faces relative vulnerability in these two states. The intention is to determine candidates for these delicate constituencies beforehand, even though their identities will not be unveiled immediately.
It’s understood that the selected candidates will be privately informed of their endorsement by the party and will receive instructions to initiate their campaign. This strategic move aims to provide them with a head start over rivals before the official election schedules are announced.
The CEC gathering may also be graced by the presence of Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, state BJP chief V.D. Sharma, Chhattisgarh BJP chief Arun Sao, and other leaders who are actively involved in election campaigns in these two states.
