SRINAGAR, August 16: Omar Abdullah, a prominent figure in the National Conference, delivered an unconventional compliment to the Jammu and Kashmir administration on Tuesday. He commended the “excellent” presence of queues outside the venue of the Independence Day celebration at Bakshi Stadium. However, he coupled this praise with a pertinent question regarding the upcoming assembly elections.
In a post on the platform formerly known as Twitter, Abdullah inquired, “Excellent. So when can these same people expect to be queueing outside polling booths for assembly elections?”
This comment from Abdullah was prompted by media reports showcasing the extensive queues outside Bakshi Stadium, where the principal Independence Day event for Jammu and Kashmir took place.
Mehbooba Mufti, the leader of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), also joined in extending her well-wishes on the 77th Independence Day. In her X post, she conveyed, “Happy Independence day to my fellow countrymen. May the idea of INDIA that binds us together triumph.”
Accompanying her message was a photograph depicting Mahatma Gandhi, India’s inaugural Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, and Maulana Abul Kalam Azad walking together.
