New Delhi : Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has taken the step of instructing the suspension of a Delhi government official on Monday. The official stands accused of rape, prompting the Chief Minister to request a report from his Chief Secretary by 5 pm today.
This action comes in response to allegations that the official engaged in the months-long rape of the minor daughter of a deceased friend, which tragically led to her pregnancy.
The Burari police station initiated a First Information Report (FIR) against the official on August 13, invoking various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the stringent Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The Delhi Police have detailed that the government official allegedly subjected the minor victim to sexual harassment, physical molestation, and repeated rape between the years 2020 and 2021.
Disturbingly, the minor revealed that she became pregnant as a result of the alleged abuse and was coerced into terminating the pregnancy by the accused official’s wife, according to statements from Delhi Police.
In a separate development earlier today, Swati Maliwal, the Chairperson of the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW), issued a notice to the Delhi Police, demanding the apprehension of the accused. This accused individual holds the position of Deputy Director within the Women and Child Development (WCD) Department of the Delhi Government.
The police investigation has uncovered that subsequent to her father’s demise, who was also a Delhi government employee, the minor began residing with the accused in Burari from October 2020 to February 2021.
During this period, the minor reportedly experienced episodes of anxiety, leading to her hospitalization a week prior. After extensive psychological counseling, she confided in medical professionals, counselors, and law enforcement officers, revealing the alleged sexual harassment by the accused.
The minor’s medical and legal evaluation has already been conducted, and the authorities are actively pursuing an investigation into the matter.
