Samba/Jammu, August 22 : Authorities in the Samba district of Jammu and Kashmir have implemented restrictions on the movement of individuals in the vicinity of the Sarore toll plaza following a demonstration organized by a group known as the ‘Yuva Rajput Sabha,’ which is demanding the dismantling of the toll plaza.
Samba District Magistrate Abhishek Sharma imposed Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) late Monday night in and around the toll plaza, a regulation that prohibits the assembly of four or more people in a specific location, according to officials.
On Monday, a large group of activists from the Yuva Rajput Sabha staged a protest, calling for the removal of the toll plaza. Some of the protestors attempted to cause damage to the structure, prompting the police to use batons to disperse the crowd.
The demonstrators argued that the toll plaza had been established in violation of regulations. Several other organizations, including trade associations, have also echoed the demand for the toll plaza’s removal, contending that people are burdened with an unnecessary toll when commuting for essential purposes.
During the night, the police detained several members of the outfit after they initiated a sit-in protest outside the toll plaza.
