Indore, August 22 : Kailash Vijayvargiya, the BJP national general secretary, predicts that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) will replicate its poor electoral performance from Gujarat in the upcoming Madhya Pradesh assembly elections, which are scheduled by the end of this year.
The AAP, led by Arvind Kejriwal and currently governing Delhi and Punjab, has announced its intention to contest all 230 constituencies in MP. During the previous Gujarat assembly elections, the AAP conducted an intensive campaign but only managed to secure five seats out of the 182-member House, while the BJP secured an impressive 156 seats.
Vijayvargiya stated to reporters on Monday night, “Kejriwal had made big promises (to voters) in Gujarat as well, but I think his party lost deposits on 90 percent of the seats there. There will be a repetition of their Gujarat poll situation in Madhya Pradesh for AAP.”
Vijayvargiya also criticized Digvijaya Singh, a Congress Rajya Sabha member, who recently alleged a conspiracy to incite communal riots in MP akin to Haryana’s Nuh. According to Vijayvargiya, Singh’s words no longer carry weight.
He expressed confidence in the state government’s ability to curb any attempt to disrupt the communal atmosphere and emphasized its capacity to counter such disturbances.
Regarding the release of the second list of BJP candidates for the upcoming assembly polls, Vijayvargiya playfully stated, “People were clueless when the first list (of BJP candidates) was released. Similarly, no one will know about the release of the second list.” The BJP surprised political observers by announcing its initial list of 39 candidates on August 17, a significant three months ahead of the anticipated November elections.
Prior to engaging with the media, Vijayvargiya and local public representatives held discussions with top police and administration officials to address the rise in nighttime crimes in Indore. After the meeting, he expressed concern about recent criminal incidents in the city that had the potential to escalate communally. In preparation for upcoming festivals, Vijayvargiya urged heightened vigilance from the police and administration to prevent the recurrence of such incidents.
