New Delhi, August 28th: In a significant turn of events, the Supreme Court has initiated an inquiry into the suspension of a lecturer by the Jammu and Kashmir government. The lecturer, Zahoor Ahmad Bhat, had presented arguments in the Article 370 case before the court last week. Renowned Senior Advocate Kapil Sibal brought the matter of the lecturer’s suspension to the attention of Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud earlier today.
It was revealed during the proceedings that Zahoor Ahmad Bhat had taken a two-day leave to participate in the case, and upon his return, he was met with suspension. The Chief Justice directed the attention of Attorney General R Venkataramani to the issue, stating, “Mr AG, please see this.”
Solicitor General of India Tushar Mehta responded by urging caution against solely relying on newspaper reports, suggesting that the complete truth might be more nuanced. Sibal, however, pointed out that the suspension order, dated August 25th, explicitly referred to the lecturer’s appearance in the court case.
Chief Justice DY Chandrachud pressed Attorney General Venkataramani to delve into the matter further, expressing his concern about the suspension of someone who had recently presented arguments before the court. “We will look into it,” assured SG Tushar Mehta in response.
The Chief Justice then recommended investigating the matter by communicating with the Lieutenant General to gain a comprehensive understanding of the situation. He questioned the timing of the suspension in relation to the lecturer’s involvement in the court case, implying a potential connection between the two occurrences.
This latest development raises questions about the possible implications of the lecturer’s suspension following his participation in the Article 370 case, adding a layer of intrigue to an already complex legal landscape.
