Jammu : A large number of people gathered, including women, stopped the vehicles of many people BJP leaders trying to mislead people on smart meter issue: Amit Kapoor Jammu, 28 August. Under the leadership of social activist Amit Kapoor, a large number of people including women from different walks of life today protested against smart meters by reaching outside the office of the Chief Engineer in Bhagwati Nagar. However, the vehicles of people coming from many areas including rural areas to participate in this demonstration were stopped by the police on the way so that this protest could be thwarted. But despite this, a large number of people managed to reach outside the Chief Engineer’s office. The protestors were raising slogans like smart meters hatana , Jammu ko bachana hai, LG hi hi, LG go back-go back, Amit Kapoor agre badho hum tumhe saath hain. Addressing the protestors, Amit Kapoor said that all the people of Jammu have gathered outside the Chief Engineer’s office today to pressurize the government to remove the smart meters. He said that if the smart meters are not removed even after this, he will intensify his movement. He strongly criticized the LG administration for deploying police force to install smart meters by force. He said that after the installation of smart meters, huge electricity bills are being handed over to the people. Kapoor said that if smart meters are correct, then why are people getting more bills. He termed the release of the arrested members of the Yuva Rajput Sabha as a victory for the Dogras. He said that by observing the shutdown yesterday, the people of Jammu have proved that they have rejected the anti-people policies of the present government. He said that people do not accept toll plazas, smart meters and property tax and their agitation will continue until the government withdraws these decisions. Kapoor said that he had started the issue of smart meters from Janipur and it has been protesting across the state and has taken the form of a mass movement. He said that the people of the state have the first right on the electricity generated in Jammu and Kashmir and they should be provided free electricity. Kapoor said that if people in Punjab and Delhi can be provided free electricity, then why can’t it be provided to the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
