SRINAGAR, August 29: An alleged trafficker of narcotics met his demise through gunfire executed by unidentified assailants in the Karnah region of Kupwara district, Jammu and Kashmir, as reported by the police on Tuesday.
Mukhtar Ahmad Shah, aged 42, was discovered lifeless in the Haridal forest area near the Line of Control (LoC) in Karnah on Monday night following the audibility of gunshots. The police spokesperson stated, “Preliminary investigations suggest that the deceased has been killed by rival narcotics smuggling gang members or rival terror operatives.”
The remains of Shah have been transported to SDH Tangdhar for essential medico-legal procedures. A comprehensive inquiry has been initiated, with a case officially registered.
According to the spokesperson, Shah held a prominent role as a narcotics smuggler and was of significant concern within the region. He had been implicated in two recent cases of narcotics and weapons smuggling, admitting to orchestrating the conveyance of substantial quantities of illicit substances and weaponry across the border.
The spokesperson further noted, “His association with his brother, Sadiq Shah, a prominent figure as a launching commander and supplier of narcotics and weapons from Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (POJK), underscores the depth of his involvement in these illicit activities. Sadiq Shah is himself charge-sheeted in narco-terror cases and happens to be a top terrorist commander based in POJK.”
