Srinagar, September 1: In the Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir, police have made significant strides in combating drug-related crimes this year. They have apprehended 343 drug peddlers, including 80 individuals who were on the most-wanted list, and seized property valued at crores.
Out of the 343 drug smugglers, 213 have been charged under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, while 54 habitual drug peddlers have been booked under PIT-NDPS/PSA. Additionally, law enforcement authorities have recovered contraband with a black market value in the crores, according to a police statement released on Friday.
Baramulla Police has also taken decisive action by attaching properties worth Rs 2.1 crore belonging to drug smugglers. This includes three houses, three vehicles, and cash amounting to Rs 1.2 crore in various areas such as Pattan, Kreeri, Nambla, and Kamalkote.
Furthermore, the Smugglers and Foreign Exchange Manipulators (SAFEM) Forfeiture of Property (FOP) and NDPSA, New Delhi, has confirmed the attachment of property illegally acquired by drug smugglers in Baramulla Police’s jurisdiction, specifically in the Pattan and Kreeri areas, which includes a house and a vehicle.
Baramulla Police has reiterated its unwavering commitment to taking tough action against drug smugglers and to attaching movable and immovable properties that have been employed for illicit drug trafficking within the district.
The police have also urged the general public in the district to step forward with information about drug peddlers in their localities, assuring them that their identities will be kept confidential. This collaborative effort aims to support the police in eradicating the scourge of drugs from the society.
