Punjab, Apr 14 : Former Punjab Chief Minister and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Parkash Singh Badal has criticized the state government over its handling of the ongoing farmers’ agitation against the new farm laws. Speaking to reporters, Badal accused the state government of failing to protect the interests of the farming community and called for a united effort to address their grievances.
Badal, who has been a vocal supporter of the farmers’ movement, said that the state government had failed to take a strong stand against the new farm laws and had not done enough to address the concerns of the farmers. He also accused the government of using excessive force against the protesters and said that this had only further aggravated the situation.
The former CM further urged all political parties to come together and work towards finding a solution to the farmers’ issues. He called for a united front against the central government and said that the farmers’ agitation was a national issue that required a collective response.
The farmers’ agitation, which began in November 2020, has seen thousands of farmers from Punjab and other states camping at the borders of Delhi to demand the repeal of the three new farm laws passed by the central government. The laws have been widely criticized by farmers’ organizations and opposition parties, who say that they will hurt the interests of farmers and favor big corporations.
The Punjab government, led by Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh, has been supportive of the farmers’ agitation and has passed a resolution in the state assembly against the new farm laws. However, it has also faced criticism from some quarters for its handling of the protests and the alleged use of force against the protesters.
