On the 6th day of the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, India’s medal tally continued to rise, with remarkable achievements in shooting and tennis. The men’s 50m rifle 3 positions team comprising Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar, Swapnil Suresh Kusale, and Akhil Sheoran shattered a world record on their way to clinching the gold medal. In the women’s 10m Air Pistol team event, Palak, Esha Singh, and Divya Thadigol secured the silver medal, with Palak and Esha also ensuring a top-2 finish in the individual women’s 10m air pistol final.
The Indian women’s squash team, consisting of Joshana Chinappa, Tanvi Khanna, and Anahat Singh, settled for bronze after a closely contested semi-final match against Hong Kong.
In athletics, India’s race walkers, Vikash Singh and Priyanka Goswami, finished 5th and 6th, respectively, in the men’s and women’s 20km race walk events. Meanwhile, in swimming, Advait Page qualified for the men’s 200m backstroke final, while Nina Venkatesh set a new national record in the women’s 50m butterfly heats.
In tennis, the Indian men’s doubles pair of Ramkumar Ramanathan and Saketh Myneni faced a tough challenge in the gold medal match against Chinese Taipei but ultimately settled for silver. Rohan Bopanna and Rutuja Bhosale had a chance to secure bronze in their semi-final.
Looking ahead, Nikhat Zareen aims to secure a medal and a spot in the 2024 Paris Olympics in the women’s 50kg quarterfinals. Indian hockey teams are in action, and squash teams have already secured at least bronze medals.
