Rajouri, Jammu and Kashmir – October 3, 2023: Two army personnel sustained injuries during an encounter with terrorists in Rajouri district, Jammu and Kashmir, according to officials on Tuesday.
The exchange of gunfire erupted on Monday evening as a result of a cordon and search operation conducted by security forces in a forested region of the district. The joint team comprising the army and Jammu and Kashmir Police had cordoned off the Broh and Soom forest areas in the Kalakote locality after receiving intelligence about suspicious movements.
Terrorists within the cordon attempted to breach the encirclement and opened fire on the troops, prompting a retaliatory response from the security forces. Two army personnel were injured in the ensuing gunfight, as confirmed by a senior police officer. Both injured soldiers have been hospitalized, and their condition is reported to be stable.
Officials reported that two terrorists are believed to be still inside the cordoned-off area. Reinforcements have been dispatched to secure all possible escape routes. A defense spokesperson noted that technology is being employed to monitor the terrorists in the Kalakote vicinity.
Currently, an intensive operation is in progress to neutralize the threat.
