Bhubaneswar, October 4: Anurag Thakur, the Minister of Information and Broadcasting, emphasized on Tuesday that central investigation agencies have the autonomy to take action against individuals involved in illegal activities.
He stated, “The investigative agencies probe if anyone does anything wrong. It is not written anywhere that the agencies can’t initiate any probe even if you have received money through illegal means which is objectionable. Investigative agencies are free and they take action as per the rules,” when responding to questions about the recent raids on NewsClick and its journalists by the Special Cell of Delhi Police.
During a press conference, Thakur also called upon the Odisha government to ensure the swift and effective implementation of the Jal Jeevan Mission, which has the potential to bring significant improvements to the lives of women.
“I would like to request the state government to ensure speedy and proper implementation of the Jal Jeevan Mission,” Thakur said.
He further emphasized that all of the Central government’s schemes are designed for the welfare of the underprivileged, with a particular focus on women’s well-being.
Thakur highlighted that by passing the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam Bill, the Modi Government fulfilled its commitment to provide 33 per cent reservation for women in Parliament and state Assemblies, thereby empowering women in leadership roles across the nation.
According to Thakur, the Modi Government has allocated significantly more funds to Odisha than the UPA Government based on available data, illustrating its commitment to the state’s development.
He also mentioned that during the G20, more than 200 meetings were conducted in 60 cities across various states and union territories, showcasing the country’s art and traditions, which will boost the tourism sector. Thakur asserted that Odisha will benefit from the economic corridor connecting Europe through Arab countries.
Thakur concluded by noting that tax collection in Odisha has increased following the implementation of GST by the Modi Government.
