Kashmir, 12 oct : President Draupadi Murmu arrives in Srinagar amid heightened security for a two-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir, which includes presiding over the 20th convocation of the University of Kashmir. She received a warm welcome from Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha at Srinagar Airport.
On October 12, her itinerary involves a visit to the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi temple, where she will inaugurate the renovated Parvati Bhavan and Skywalk at the sacred shrine. Additionally, she will interact with local tribal groups and women from self-help organizations at Raj Bhavan. A civic reception in her honor will also be hosted at Raj Bhavan. Stringent security measures have been implemented to ensure the President’s safety, both at the University of Kashmir’s campus and throughout Srinagar.
Upon her arrival at Srinagar International Airport in Kashmir, President Murmu received a Guard of Honour and was subsequently transported to the Badami Bagh Cantonment. There, she landed at the helipad in the 15 Corps Headquarters and paid her respects by laying a wreath at the War Memorial.
The University of Kashmir’s convocation holds significant importance, as it celebrates the academic achievements of students who completed their courses between 2021 and mid-2023.
After the convocation, a special light and sound show at Dal Lake is scheduled for President Murmu on Wednesday evening. Subsequently, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha will host the President at the Raj Bhawan in Srinagar.
The KU convocation event is poised to be a memorable celebration, with President Murmu conferring degrees to candidates from various academic disciplines. The convocation ceremony will be held at KU’s convocation complex, situated in Hazratbal on the outskirts of Srinagar.
