Srinagar, Oct 18: In a recent development, the Jammu and Kashmir government has taken measures to identify and address the issue of foreign nationals who have been overstaying in the Union Territory. An order issued by the Additional Chief Secretary of Home, R K Goyal, has officially sanctioned the formation of a six-member committee with a specific mandate to identify foreign nationals who have been “illegally/overstaying in the UT of J&K since 01.01.2011.”
The committee, led by the Financial Commissioner/Additional Chief Secretary of Home, consists of members from various relevant authorities. These include the Foreigners Regional Registration Officer from BOI, Amritsar, Punjab; the SSP CID Special Branch from both Jammu and Srinagar; as well as all district SSPs/SPs. Special Coordinator IVFRT from NIC J&K is also part of the committee’s composition.
The newly established committee has been instructed to compile a monthly report detailing any instances of foreign nationals who are missing or overstaying in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. These reports are to be submitted by the 7th day of each month to the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, located in New Delhi. This move underscores the government’s commitment to regulating the stay of foreign nationals in the region and ensuring compliance with relevant immigration and residency laws.
