Jammu and Kashmir : The Jammu and Kashmir State Disaster Management Authority (JKDMA) has issued an avalanche warning for four districts in the state for the next 24 hours. The warning states that a ‘low danger level’ avalanche is expected to occur above 3200 to 3500 meters above sea level in the districts of Doda, Kishtwar, Bandipora, and Kupwara. The residents in these areas have been advised to take necessary precautions and avoid going to the avalanche-prone areas until further notice.
This warning comes after the tragic incident in February this year where two foreigners were killed in an avalanche in Gulmarg. In the recent news, Baramulla police have informed that 19 stranded tourists from overseas and two local guides were rescued. They were part of three teams skiing in Hapatkhud Kangdori, situated in Gulmarg, where they got trapped. The rescue team was mobilized immediately by the Jammu and Kashmir Police and the tourism department, and they were able to reach the avalanche site on time to rescue the stranded skiers.
The Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police jointly rescued a man buried under a pile of snow after an avalanche in Kupwara in February. The authorities are taking all necessary measures to ensure the safety of the people in these areas, and the situation is being monitored closely. The residents are advised to stay alert and follow the instructions given by the authorities for their safety.
