SRINAGAR, Apr 26: Night temperatures in Jammu and Kashmir fell below normal at most places on Wednesday as the region witnessed generally cloudy weather and forecast for rainfall till April 28, according to the meteorological department. The official further stated that there is a possibility of intermittent light rain with thunder or light snowfall over higher reaches of central and northwestern parts of Kashmir during this time, with a likelihood of moderate intensity rainfall at few places. The department also urged farmers to postpone orchard spraying until May 1.
Srinagar recorded a low of 7.9°C, Qazigund 5.2°C, Pahalgam 2.6°C, Kokernag 3.0°C, and Gulmarg 3.2°C, all below normal for the respective regions. Jammu recorded a low of 18.5°C, while Banihal, Batote, Katra, and Bhadarwah recorded temperatures below normal by varying degrees.
Ladakh’s Leh and Kargil, on the other hand, recorded a low of minus 2.2°C and 3.5°C respectively. The meteorological department official also warned of strong gusty winds towards late afternoon/evening with the possibility of hailstorm during the period. However, there is no forecast of major rain or snowfall till the end of April.
