Surat, Apr 15 : In a setback to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Gujarat, two of its corporators from Surat Municipal Corporation, Varsha Nada and Dinesh Kachhadiya, have joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ahead of the state Assembly elections.
Both Nada and Kachhadiya, who were AAP’s only two representatives in the 120-member Surat Municipal Corporation, claimed that they left the party due to differences with the local leadership.
After joining the BJP, Nada said she was impressed with the work done by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani. The two AAP corporators had won the elections in 2015 from ward numbers 17 and 18 respectively.
AAP Gujarat spokesperson, Manoj Padavi, confirmed that the two corporators have resigned from the party and joined the BJP. He claimed that the party has been gaining support in the state, and such incidents of defection are negligible.
