New Delhi, August 30 : The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has strongly endorsed Arvind Kejriwal as the prime ministerial nominee for the opposition INDIA bloc, citing his successful track record as the Chief Minister of Delhi, which offers a model beneficial for the entire nation.
Priyanka Kakkar, the party’s Chief National Spokesperson, conveyed to PTI that Kejriwal consistently formulates budgets that are both economically profitable and people-centric.
Kakkar’s remarks came just a day before the scheduled meeting of the INDIA alliance in Mumbai. During this meeting, opposition leaders are anticipated to collaboratively devise a campaign strategy to effectively counter the BJP-led NDA in the forthcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections, aiming to resolve any existing differences amongst themselves.
When questioned about the most fitting prime ministerial candidate for the INDIA alliance, Kakkar asserted, “As a spokesperson, I would recommend the name of our National Convener, Arvind Kejriwal.”
Kakkar highlighted that Kejriwal has consistently raised pertinent issues affecting the public, resulting in a model that has kept inflation at bay in Delhi. She expressed her desire for this model to be extended nationwide, acknowledging, “He has introduced an approach that directly benefits the public. While I’m hopeful, the final decision rests beyond my authority,” noted the AAP’s Chief Spokesperson.
It’s worth noting that last year, Manish Sisodia, a senior AAP leader and the then Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi, had also advocated for Kejriwal to assume the prime ministerial role. Sisodia had coined the phrase “‘Ek Mauka Kejriwal Ko’ (One chance for Kejriwal),” a sentiment that had gained traction nationally.
Sisodia had emphasized that Kejriwal is viewed as a viable alternative to Narendra Modi in the upcoming 2024 elections, primarily due to his focus on crucial sectors like healthcare, education, and employment.
