New Delhi, July 12: Union Home Minister Amit Shah has drawn attention to the significant threat posed by cybercrimes to the security of citizens worldwide within the rapidly advancing digital landscape without borders. Shah emphasized the necessity of establishing a reliable global partnership to effectively combat this growing menace.
Shah is scheduled to inaugurate the two-day G20 conference on “Crime and Security in the Age of Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs), Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Metaverse” commencing in Gurugram on Thursday. The conference aims to bring together more than 900 participants from G20 countries, nine special invitee countries, international organizations, technology leaders, and domain experts from India and around the world.
In a tweet, Shah stated, “In a rapidly advancing borderless digital arena, cybercrimes, especially cyber frauds, pose a major threat to the security of citizens across the globe. A reliable global partnership is the key to effectively combatting this menace.” He further added that the G20 conference on cybersecurity will facilitate extensive discussions among G20 countries, special invitee countries, and domain experts.
The conference will underscore the importance of global partnerships in countering cybercrimes and working towards a safer cyberspace by addressing various cybersecurity concerns. Shah will also launch cyber volunteer squads from seven prestigious educational institutions in the country. These specially designated volunteers will contribute to raising cyber awareness in society, identifying and reporting harmful content, and providing technical assistance to ensure a cyber-safe environment.
According to an official statement, building a “cyber safe India” is among the top priorities of the Ministry of Home Affairs under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the guidance of Amit Shah. The G20 conference aims to foster a global partnership to establish a secure cyberspace and prioritize cybersecurity concerns. Discussions will focus on cybersecurity measures and strategies to combat cybercrime, taking into account emerging technologies such as NFT, AI, and Metaverse.
The conference also recognizes the significance of cybersecurity in the international realm and its economic and geopolitical implications. Increased attention to cybersecurity at the G20 forum is expected to contribute positively to safeguarding critical information infrastructure and digital platforms. Moreover, discussions on cybersecurity and cybercrime prevention will aid in the development of an information-sharing framework.
