SRINAGAR, August 28: In a determined effort to combat the drug menace plaguing society, the police in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district have seized properties belonging to drug smugglers, amounting to a total value of Rs 2.1 crore during the current year.
Taking an escalated stance against drug peddlers, the Baramulla police have taken the significant step of freezing properties owned by drug smugglers, which encompasses three residential houses, three private vehicles with an estimated value of Rs 90.02 lakh, and a substantial cash amount of Rs 1.2 crore.
The properties of these drug smugglers were confiscated in various areas including Pattan, Kreeri, Kamalkote Uri, and Nambla Uri in Baramulla, utilizing the provisions outlined in sections 68-E and 68-F (1) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act of 1985, according to official police statements.
The freezing of properties represents a stringent measure stipulated within the NDPS Act, equipping the police to take decisive action against drug peddlers who have amassed assets—both movable and immovable—through their illicit drug-related activities.
