Srinagar, August 10: Authorities have reported the detention of six individuals associated with the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist group in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla and Budgam districts, according to officials on Thursday. The security forces successfully dismantled a terror network in Uri, a locality in Baramulla in north Kashmir, leading to the arrest of three LeT terrorist associates who were orchestrating the operations.
Acting on a tip-off, security personnel conducted a joint patrol operation and apprehended a suspect, Showkat Ali Awan, a resident of Churunda in Uri. The subsequent investigation led to the discovery of two grenades. During his interrogation, Awan disclosed information about his accomplices, Ahmad Din and Mohammad Sadeeq Khatana. Their questioning revealed further caches, including two grenades, a Chinese pistol, a pistol magazine, and four live rounds.
The arrested individuals were allegedly involved in illicit cross-border trafficking of arms and ammunition, following the directives of Pakistan-based terror handlers. The materials were intended for further distribution among LeT militants, aimed at facilitating terror activities. An official case has been registered, and ongoing investigations are underway.
In a separate incident, security forces apprehended three terrorist associates linked to the proscribed LeT outfit in the Khansahab area of Budgam district in central Kashmir. The detainees were identified as Qaisar Ahmad Dar from Kremshora, Tahir Ahmad Dar, and Aqib Rashed Ganie from Wagar. The search led to the discovery of incriminating materials, including a Chinese hand grenade, two magazines, and 57 live rounds. The seized evidence has been cataloged for further examination, and legal proceedings have commenced.
Both cases represent crucial steps in curbing terrorist activities in the region, as authorities work to dismantle networks and ensure the security and stability of the area.
