Srinagar, Aug 25: In the ongoing pursuit to combat drug smuggling and eliminate the presence of narcotics from society, the police in Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir have taken significant action. A total of 54 notorious drug smugglers, who were among the most wanted, have been charged under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT NDPS) Act and the Public Safety Act (PSA) this year.
Through a coordinated effort, Baramulla police secured formal detention orders from the appropriate authorities and subsequently incarcerated these individuals in various jails across Jammu and Kashmir. Operating primarily in Uri, Pattan, Baramulla, Kreeri, and Tangmarg sub-divisions within the district, these hard-core drug peddlers were involved in a web of drug-related activities, targeting local youth and contributing to the drug abuse trade.
Despite facing numerous cases and accusations, these individuals continued to engage in their unlawful activities, consistently promoting drug abuse among the youth. However, the sustained actions taken against them have led to a discernible improvement in the overall situation, leading to a noteworthy decline in drug abuse within Baramulla district.
Local citizens have commended the relentless efforts of the police and expressed their contentment and gratitude for the strides made in combating the drug menace. The police have also urged the general public to step forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their respective areas, ensuring anonymity for informants. This collaborative approach is aimed at supporting law enforcement in their mission to eradicate the scourge of drugs from society.
