Washington, September 2 : The White House has announced that US President Joe Biden is scheduled to travel to India next week to attend the G20 Summit. During his visit, he will engage in a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 8, coinciding with the historic summit being hosted by India as the President of the G20, scheduled for September 9 and 10 in New Delhi.
The White House expressed its admiration for Prime Minister Modi’s leadership of the G20 and stated that during the Summit, President Biden will commend Modi for his role.
According to the White House’s week-ahead schedule, President Biden will travel to New Delhi on Thursday, September 7, to participate in the G20 Leaders’ Summit. The following day, he will engage in a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
During the G20 summit over the weekend, President Biden and fellow G20 leaders will collaborate on addressing various global challenges, including the transition to clean energy and the fight against climate change. They will also discuss strategies to mitigate the economic and social impacts of the conflict involving Russian President Vladimir Putin in Ukraine and to strengthen the capacity of multilateral development banks, including the World Bank, to combat poverty and address global issues.
While in New Delhi, President Biden will emphasize his commitment to the G20 as the primary forum for economic cooperation, including the US hosting of the G20 in 2026.
The G20, an intergovernmental forum comprising the world’s major developed and developing economies, represents a significant portion of the global GDP, trade, and population.
Following his visit to India, President Biden will proceed to Hanoi, Vietnam, on September 10, where he will meet with General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and other key leaders to explore opportunities for deeper cooperation between the United States and Vietnam. The discussions will focus on advancing a technology-focused and innovation-driven Vietnamese economy, expanding people-to-people ties through education exchanges and workforce development initiatives, addressing climate change, and enhancing peace, prosperity, and stability in the region, as outlined by the White House.
