Jammu, October 17: BJP General Secretary Tarun Chugh stated that the BJP witnessed an increase in both its vote share and seat count in the recent Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (Kargil) election. He also declared that Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir would take place soon, as the delimitation process and voter list preparation have been completed.
Chugh expressed confidence that the Gupkar alliance, which suffered a defeat in the local body elections, would face a similar outcome in the upcoming Assembly polls. He highlighted that the delimitation of Assembly constituencies had taken place, and the voter list had been prepared, paving the way for timely elections.
Regarding the urban local body (ULB) polls, Chugh mentioned that local bodies submitted 700 written complaints citing discrepancies in ward and gram panchayat listings. He urged the government to rectify the situation, addressing concerns that the opposition raised regarding the delayed polls in Jammu and Kashmir.
Discussing the Kargil polls, Chugh noted a significant increase in voter turnout, with a five-fold rise compared to past elections. He emphasized the BJP’s success in winning two seats, compared to one in the previous election, and rejected opposition claims that created confusion regarding the results.
Chugh also highlighted the transformation of Jammu and Kashmir, once known as the “capital of terrorism,” into a center for tourism and development. He emphasized the region’s shift toward peace, development, and youth empowerment. Chugh underlined the crackdown on terrorism, affirming that those harming civilians would not be pardoned.
He mentioned the ongoing jan samvad events conducted at all booths under the leadership of Jammu and Kashmir BJP Chief Ravinder Raina, emphasizing the region’s journey towards peace, development, and prosperity.
