Kolkata, August 28 : Mamata Banerjee, the Chief Minister of West Bengal, expressed her belief on Monday that the BJP could potentially schedule the Lok Sabha elections for December, citing the alleged booking of all available helicopters by the saffron party for their campaign purposes. Speaking at a rally organized by the TMC youth wing, Banerjee cautioned against granting the BJP a third term, warning that it could lead to an “autocratic” regime in the country. She also attributed the recent incidents of illegal firecracker factory explosions in the state to individuals involved in “unlawful activities,” suggesting that some members of the police force were providing support for these actions.
“If the BJP comes back to power for a third consecutive term, there is a risk of the nation being ruled autocratically. I have concerns that the Lok Sabha elections might even take place as early as December 2023… “The saffron party appears to have reserved all helicopter resources for campaigning, thereby preventing other political parties from utilizing them for canvassing,” Banerjee asserted.
The spirited leader of the TMC highlighted her victory over the three-decade-long rule of the CPI(M) in Bengal and expressed determination to replicate this success by triumphing over the BJP in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Taking a stance against the ABVP and BJP activists who chanted controversial slogans at Jadavpur University, Banerjee conveyed her instructions to the police to apprehend those responsible for promoting hateful slogans within the academic institution.
“Those who engage in such slogans should remember that they are in Bengal; this is not Uttar Pradesh,” she emphasized.
