Srinagar, May 03: The Jammu and Kashmir state president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Ravinder Raina, has predicted that the next Chief Minister (CM) of the union territory will be from his party.
Speaking to reporters, Raina expressed confidence that the BJP would emerge as the single largest party in the next state assembly elections and would form the government with its allies.
Raina’s statement comes at a time when political activity in Jammu and Kashmir has picked up pace after the restoration of statehood to the region. The BJP is currently part of the ruling coalition in the region, led by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha.
While Raina’s prediction is still a matter of speculation, it underscores the BJP’s growing influence in the region’s politics. The party has been making steady inroads in the traditionally Muslim-dominated Kashmir Valley, and has been aggressively pushing for development and good governance in the region.
The next state assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir are due in 2024.
