Srinagar – The Chief Justice of India (CJI) and Patron-in-Chief of the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA), Dr. Dhananjaya Yeshwant Chandrachud, is set to inaugurate the 19th All India Legal Services Authorities Meet in Srinagar on Friday.
The inaugural ceremony will be attended by esteemed dignitaries including Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul, Judge of the Supreme Court of India and Executive Chairman of NALSA; Justice Sanjiv Khanna, Judge of the Supreme Court of India and Chairman of the Supreme Court Legal Services Committee; other Judges of the Supreme Court of India; Manoj Sinha, Lieutenant Governor of the Union Territory (UT) of Jammu and Kashmir; Arjun Ram Meghwal, Minister of State for Law and Justice; Brigadier BD Mishra, Lieutenant Governor of the UT of Ladakh; N. Kotiswar Singh, Chief Justice of the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh and Patron-in-Chief of J&K Legal Services Authority; and Justice Tashi Rabstan, Judge of the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, and Executive Chairman of J&K Legal Services Authority. Additionally, Judges of the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh will also be present during the inaugural session of the event.
The All India Legal Services Authorities Meet is being hosted by the Government of J&K and the Jammu and Kashmir Legal Services Authority, under the guidance of the National Legal Services Authority. The event is attended by Chief Justices of High Courts, Executive Chairpersons of State Legal Services Authorities, Chairpersons of High Court Legal Services Committees, Member Secretary of NALSA, Member Secretary of SCLSC, Member Secretaries of SLSAs, Member Secretaries of HCLSCs, members of LADCS, panel lawyers, law students, faculty, students from various law universities, and members of prominent NGOs, among others.
The conference will focus on discussing the future course of action for Legal Services Authorities, setting targets, addressing challenges, and outlining steps to strengthen and streamline legal aid programs throughout the country.
