New Delhi, May 6 : West Bengal Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee, expressed her condolences to the family of Siddhant Chetri, who tragically lost his life during an encounter with terrorists in Rajouri’s Khandi area. In a tweet, Mamata conveyed her deep shock and sorrow over the demise of Siddhant Chetri, along with four other brave soldiers, Lance Naik Ruchin Singh Rawat, Naik Arvind Kumar, Hav Neelam Singh, and Paratrooper Pramod Negi, who also lost their lives in the operation. She emphasized their supreme sacrifice and pledged that their memory would be forever cherished. Mamata extended her sincere condolences to the grieving families of Siddhant Chetri and the other martyrs.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh traveled to Jammu to assess the situation and review the ongoing encounter between security forces and terrorists in Rajouri’s Kandi area. The operation, named “Trinetra,” involved the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and the CRPF.
Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha, paid tribute to the fallen soldiers in a solemn ceremony. The Indian Army continues its efforts to eliminate a group of terrorists responsible for an ambush on an army truck in the Tota Gali area of Bhata Dhurian, resulting in the loss of five soldiers.
In the latest development, Army officials reported the neutralization of one terrorist and a likely injury to another during a fresh exchange of fire in Kandi in the early hours of Saturday. The encounter began at around 1.15 am when the terrorists attempted to escape from the cordon and continued until 5 am when the cordon was readjusted.
To honor the fallen soldiers, Lieutenant General Upendra Dwivedi, the Northern Army commander, participated in a wreath-laying ceremony on behalf of all ranks of the Northern Command of the Indian Army. The ceremony paid homage to the five soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.
